Have you ever purchased a mascara that you didn’t love? Maybe it didn’t add enough volume, or lengthen as much as you would like? I’m guessing the answer is yes….at least 50% of the time?? For me, it’s more like 75% of the time, practically non-existent lash probs here . Instead of tossing it, keep it and use it WITH a mascara that you love. As long as the mascara isn’t super clumpy, layering mascaras can build up your lashes while taking advantage of each mascara’s qualities. Think of each mascara as a step.
For example: I didn’t love what the @iliabeauty lengthening mascara did for my lashes (as I typically need volume AND length,) but I did love how it defined and separated each lash. Since I keep a constant stock of my fav mascaras (@lorealparis Telescopic and @essence_cosmetics Lash Princess False Lash,) I’ve been using my @iliabeauty mascara as my step 1 mascara, followed by @essence_cosmetics Lash Princess False Lash as my step 2. When used together, they create the definition, length AND volume that I need.
Don’t be afraid to play with mascara combos. A few tips to think about while doing so:
apply just one coat of your step 1 mascara (so your base layer mascara is smooth) and use quicker strokes when applying
try to go for a defining and/or lengthening mascara as your step 1. Avoid super thick formulas as this will just result in a clumpy mess
try not to let your step 1 mascara sit/dry too long before applying step 2 (this also prevents clumping)
When applying step 2 mascara, work fast at the root of your lashes and emphasize your application on the middle to ends of your lashes. This will build up the ends of your lashes so they look longer/fuller. A slightly thicker mascara formula is okay during this step
volumizing mascaras work great as step 2 mascaras
my general rule of thumb is to use my not-so-favorite mascara as my step 1, and my go-to mascara as my step 2.
Results: you end up with the results of your fav mascara + the bonus of whatever you liked about the not-so-great step 1 mascara! #makeuptipmonday
